What is it?
The test of constitutional and sociocultural knowledge of Spain (prueba CCSE) is an exam prepared by the Instituto Cervantes that evaluates, through different tasks, the knowledge of the Constitution and of the Spanish social and cultural reality, it is one of the requirements established in the laws for the acquisition of nationality for residents in Spain.
For the elaboration of the CCSE y test of the repertoire of contents, the Instituto Cervantes has taken as reference:
- The guidelines established in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Manual for relating exams to the CEFR, both documents prepared by the Council of Europe.
- The Spanish Constitution and other sources of public administration in Spain.
- Two of the Instituto Cervantes inventories («Cultural references and «Sociocultural knowledge and behaviors»).
What does it consist of?
TEST FORMAT
The test consists of five tasks with a total of 25 multiple-choice questions (3 closed-answer options), or true/false, on constitutional and sociocultural knowledge of Spain.

TASK FORMAT
Questions with three answer options of which only one is true, and others with a single answer option of true or false.
TASK TEXT TYPE
Texts adapted so that most of the grammatical structures and vocabulary are accessible to the candidates (in addition, a glossary of CCSE terms is provided).
Length of the questions: between 30 and 40 words for each complete question.
QUALIFICATION
Correct answers receive 1 point and incorrect answers 0 points. Wrong answers or blank answers are not penalized.
To pass the test it is necessary to answer 15 of the 25 questions correctly (60% of the questions).
